N. Ky. small businesses honored

Five Northern Kentucky companies were honored Tuesday as winners of Small Business Success awards from the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. They include:

  • Costume Gallery for retail. Founded in 1983, the costume shop now is in Newport, with four full-time and eight part-time employees.
  • Flottman Co. Inc. for manufacturing and distribution. Founded in 1921, the printing company is in its third generation of family ownership.
  • Kohrs Lonnemann Heil Engineers PSC for construction trades. The mechanical engineering firm started in 1955 and employs 39 people.
  • C-Forward Inc. for service. Founded in 1999, the computer networking company earned a profit in its first year.
  • Systems InSight Inc. for service. The technology-consulting firm has been in business for more than four years.

“Small businesses are a powerful force and provide a thrust to the economic engine of our nation,” chamber president Gary Toebben said.

Companies at least three years old with fewer than 100 employees and less than $5 million in annual sales were eligible for the awards.

N. Ky. ‘SUCCESS’ winners announced

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has named its 2003 Small Business SUCCESS Award winners.

This year`s recipients are:

  • Costume Gallery, in the category of retail. The Newport-based company designs and constructs costumes for regional, stock, educational and local theaters.
  • Flottman Co. Inc., in the category of manufacturing/distribution. Flottman Co. is a privately held printing company that is currently being run by third-generation family members.
  • Kohrs Lonneman Heil Engineers PSC, in the category of construction trades. KLH Engineers is a mechanical and electrical engineering firm that offers HVAC, electrical, fire protection, plumbing and communication technology consulting services.
  • In the service category, there was a tie between C-Forward Inc., a computer networking company, and Systems InSight Inc., an information technology services firm.

The SUCCESS awards program, which started in 1996, recognizes small businesses that have shown growth, financial stability, resourcefulness and creativity to excel in their industry, according to a chamber news release.

The winners were chosen from a field of 167 nominees that was whittled down to 13 finalists

N. Ky. names finalists for SUCCESS Awards

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has narrowed a field of 168 nominees down to 13 finalists for the 2003 Small Business SUCCESS Awards.

The awards program, which started in 1996, recognizes small businesses that have shown growth, financial stability, resourcefulness and creativity to excel in their industry, according to a chamber news release.

This year`s finalists are: Boggs & Colvin LLC, C-Forward Inc., Cardinal Laboratories Inc., Cindy B! Realtors, Costume Gallery, dbaDIRECT Inc., First Farm Inn, Flottman Co. Inc., James M. Daugherty CPA, Kohrs Lonneman Heil Engineers PSC, Service Industry Research Systems, Systems InSight Inc. and Wealth Advisors of Cincinnati LLC.

The winners will be announced at a June 24 luncheon at Receptions Banquet and Conference Center in Erlanger. The event will last from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be emceed by Clyde Gray, an anchor for WCPO-TV.
